Wellingtonians most risky travellers

Wellingtonians are the most likely to ignore Government warnings about travel with 25% of those living in the capital choosing a holiday destination regardless of any potential dangers, according to the findings of a new survey.

The results of the travel survey were released today to coincide with the launch this week in New Zealand of Canstar Blue - an organisation devoted to providing Kiwis with customer satisfaction ratings on a wide range of products and services.

CANSTAR CANNEX - New Zealand National Manager, Derek Bonnar, said 2,500 kiwis were asked to rate their satisfaction with the travel provider they chose to book their holiday with. Travel providers included in the ratings were: Harvey World Travel, Flight Centre, House of Travel and Webjet online.

"Customers gave the thumbs up to Harvey World Travel's shop front service.

"The Harvey World Travel shop front rated number one in all the customer satisfaction categories, including: overall satisfaction, price, service, range of other items for sale, knowledge of staff and accuracy of bookings and service. Canstar Blue has awarded Harvey World Travel its maximum five star rating highlighting its excellent customer service, as voted by its customers."

House of Travel's shop front service tied for top billing with Harvey World Travel in three of the six categories rated by Canstar Blue: service, range of other items for sale and knowledge of staff. Webjet (online) also tied for top spot on price.

"The survey revealed that Wellingtonians were more likely than other kiwis to travel to potentially dangerous holiday locations. However, despite living in one of the world's adventure tourism's hot spots 66% of kiwis surveyed would rather chill out on holiday then go for the all out adventure option.

"Some of our other travel related behaviours also hint at a more conservative approach. We may be big users of the internet, but our survey showed kiwis are more satisfied arranging travel face-to-face rather than online. We also like to safe guard our holiday investment, with 75% of us forking out for travel insurance," Derek said.

Amongst those surveyed the most common gripes about travel providers include:

� Timeframes for return calls, bookings, quotes and documents etc

� Not advising when flights and details changed

� Incorrect advice

� After sale service.

Canstar Blue's customer satisfaction survey of travel providers was conducted in New Zealand by independent professional market research company Colmar Brunton, Australia.

Canstar Blue is the brainchild of financial research and ratings company, CANSTAR CANNEX which has been operating in New Zealand for nearly a decade.

"Consumers will undoubtedly feel more confident about a purchase if hundreds of other Kiwis rate it highly," said Derek.
