ZM Takes Taxi Ride From Whangarei To Bluff

Just how much would it cost to take a cab ride from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South?

ZM's Jacqui Jensen is about to find out when she embarks on one of New Zealand's longest ever taxi rides; starting out from Whangarei and finishing up in Bluff.

The long ride is part of ZM's Taxi Fare Factor, which gives ZM listeners the chance to win $2000 in cash if they can correctly predict the final fare.

People can change their guess as many times as they like - up until the taxi boards the Cook Straight ferry.

Jacqui Jensen will be traveling courtesy of Blue Bubble Taxis, the recently established national taxi co-operative. The white cab with bubble roof and distinctive ZM signage, will be traveling through 26 New Zealand towns.

"This is going to be a long trip and I'm fully prepared," says Jacqui "ZM hosts Flynny and Jay think I'm silly, but I've invested in some special taxi pants. Those leather seats stick to your skin if you wear a skirt and there's no way I'm sitting in jeans for eleven hours a day. I'll be wearing tights and trackies. Yeoww"

Jacqui will be driven by experienced Blue Bubble taxi driver Mr Jimmy Coxon from Dunedin. While the two will be spending hours together Jacqui says the trip will be no "taxi cab confessions".

"I guess we'll get to know each other quite well but I don't want the guy driving off the road, sick of me incessantly chatting about myself in the backseat."

Listeners can tune into ZM or visit on Monday October 18 at 8am when Jacqui and driver Jimmy will depart Whangarei for their countrywide ride. The Taxi Fare Factor competition winner will be announced from Bluff.

Jacqui's whereabouts will be updated on via GPS in real-time as well as Facebook and Twitter. will feature video footage and a travel log of the day's cab ride.

At each stop listeners have the chance to win an instant one hundred dollar prize. They simply need to be listening to ZM during the day to hear the prompt to hail down Jacqui in her Blue Bubble taxi when it pulls into a town. The first person to hail the cab down, wins the cash.

Details of the ZM Taxi Fare Factor route and promotion details can be found at

I'm thinking of this as a trip, around the world only in a taxi around New Zealand," says Jacqui Jensen.
