I’ve only seen 3 of the 5, which makes this a very easy choice for me!
Who I Want To Win – ‘Midnight In Paris’. Best film of 2011 deserves a best screenplay award!
I love Star Wars! Also despite what some of the hard core fans say, I still love the prequels despite their massive amount of flaws! So when I got my invite for the press screening for the 3D re-release of ‘The Phantom Menace’ I was quick to say yes!
I missed many great films at the 2011 NZIFF, and this was one of them. Having a major interest in both alternative media and writing in general, this was one film I thought could be both important and eye opening.
I’ve seen 4 out of 5 which isn’t too bad!
Who I Want To Win – ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’. Complicated film that has every twist and turn nicely wrapped up which leaves you with a very satisfied feeling. Great script!
Sitting down to watch 'Young Adult', I had mixed feelings, as I'd been hearing lots of negative things about it. It was from the chick who wrote 'Juno' and the dude who directed 'Up In The Air', so that was at least worth something.
I first saw the ‘Gantz’ films at the 2011 New Zealand International Film Festival and loved both of them! So when I had the chance to pick the first film as one of my February review DVD’s I was quick to pick it!
Going into this film I had heard a lot of hype about it, especially with the word Oscar surrounding it. On coming out of it I can see exactly why! George Clooney was pretty awesome, and I can fully see him getting a nomination.
It’s not often you see a film that’s long and drawn out yet you never feel bored, even for a second. This film was like watching two grand master chess champions going head-to-head. Every move so deliberate and planned as they pull you into the drama of the unfolding game.
It’s not often films I love with a passion get released with special one off screenings at the cinemas, which means watching them on my kickass TV is the only option.
I remember really enjoying the first ‘Sione’s Wedding’, though when re-watching it a month or so back, in preparation for seeing the sequel, I was surprised to find I didn’t like it nearly as much on the second viewing, though it was still good.
When I first saw the trailer for this film I thought it ‘might’ be half decent as it looked to be directed by the guy who did ‘Wanted’ which I really liked.
I’ll see pretty much anything and even more so if it’s free! So when I got my press invite for this film, even though I hadn’t seen the first, I thought I’ll give it a go.
The Japanese are responsible for many great things and a whole lot of weird shit too! But one thing they do very well is pump out great cinema in multiple genres.
The first ‘Sherlock Holmes’ was pretty damn cool, but to me it just wasn’t as good as I thought it could have been. In fact, I thought it was a good start for a possible franchise, with each film in the series stepping up a gear as they went.
