30 July 2008 - A Lotto Strike Four prize worth $290,216 has been claimed by a very surprised Christchurch man.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he regularly plays Lotto games but has never won a big prize.

"I was reading the paper on Sunday and thought I would check my tickets. I then realised my Strike numbers matched the winning numbers printed in the paper. I read it again, then again.

"Then I went to the sink and had to get a glass to water to calm down before I checked the numbers again.

"Then I went to a Lotto shop to double check my ticket. I said to the lady that I think I have won $100,000 on Strike. She checked my ticket on her machine and then told me that I had won more than $290,000 - as Strike had jackpotted.

"That was a very nice surprise!" the winner said.

He plans to put the money safely in the bank and take some time to think about his future plans.

The lucky player purchased their ticket at Unichem Bishopdale Pharmacy in Christchurch.

The weekend's draw will mark Lotto's 21st birthday - and to honour this landmark event, Lotto will be giving away 2,100 extra prizes worth over $5.4 million on 2 August - NZ Lotteries' biggest draw ever. Every Lotto ticket purchased for the 2 August draw will receive an entry voucher for the special draw.
