The Kāpiti Coast District Council is making some changes to the way the Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre in Paraparaumu operates.

From 1 July, the Kāpiti Community Centre Trust will no longer receive Council funding to run the Centre.

The Council will step in to manage the Centre’s day-to-day operations while it works to secure a new provider to run the Centre through an open procurement process.

Group Manager Community Services Max Pedersen says the Council acknowledges that the Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre is a valued community facility and its doors will remain open.

"We are committed to maintaining a vibrant, safe, welcoming, and affordable space for the community to use.

"We are currently working through a handover process with the Trust to ensure there is a smooth transition," Mr Pedersen said.

"People will still be able to book rooms and enjoy the Centre’s facilities as they did before."
