Book lovers, DVD fanatics and CD enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear that Upper Hutt Libraries is having its biggest book sale yet.

Space restrictions in Upper Hutt’s temporary Pop-up Library have meant that regular book sales have had to be put on hold and withdrawn books were stored in the Central Library building. With remedial work now expected to start on the building in August, space needs to be cleared, so all the withdrawn items have to go.

The book sale takes place on the ground floor of the CBD Towers from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm, on 21 and from 23 - 27 July. The sale will also be open late until 7.00 pm on Thursday 26 July and all remaining items will be free on Friday 27 July.

Library items are withdrawn and sold because they are no longer in demand, and old books need to make way for the new. Books selected for withdrawal are chosen based on their age, condition, and/or low demand.

Upper Hutt City Libraries maintains a collection development policy that is available for the public to view. Upper Hutt’s Central Library building closure has not affected the rate at which items have been withdrawn, and Upper Hutt City Libraries is not reducing the amount of titles held.
