When it comes to celebrating the academic achievements of staff and students, UCOL is among the first to recognise a job well done, something that they take delight in.

Each year UCOL academic staff can apply for an academic promotion for career advancement to become an Expert or Fellow (both are UCOL levels of Senior Lecturer) which recognises both achievement and commitment to sustained excellence in teaching and research, an important focus for educators. Lecturers who are invested in their work and passionate about what they do, make a difference to their students and the future of their industry. When future generations have such exemplary teachers leading them, it affects the work that is then carried out not just within the campus, but also within the community, a goal that UCOL constantly strives towards.

Last month UCOL were proud to announce their ten Experts and Fellows for 2018 who were thrilled to receive this award.

Among the Experts are; Janell Kiriona: Senior Lecturer, Exercise and Wellness, Dr Johannie Spies: Senior Lecturer, Exercise and Wellness, Dr Kathryn Wightman: Senior Lecturer, Glass and Visual Arts, Megan Norris: Senior Lecturer, Certificate in Science and Health, Dr Minjie Hu: Senior Lecturer, Information and Communication, Sarah Jansen: Senior Lecturer, Science and Health, Stephanie West: Programme Leader/Senior Lecturer, Fashion and Textiles, and Warren Granger: Senior Lecturer, Exercise and Wellness.

The Fellows for 2018 are; Farzanah Desai: Senior Lecturer, Exercise and Wellness and Dr Hayden Pritchard: Senior Lecturer, Exercise and Wellness.

Dr Jerry Shearman, Executive Director of Education and Applied Research was pleased to announce the successful applicants.

"The quality of academic staff at UCOL is very high and this is evident in the quality of the applications for promotion"

This year’s awards displayed a strong representation of Health Sciences within UCOL and across campuses, an area the school is pleased to be advancing in.

Experts and Fellows is just one of many forms of recognition UCOL staff receive for their on-going commitment to their work and professional development which will be on offer again in 2019.
