Paraglider dies on Mt Maunganui

At about 6.20pm this evening a paraglider crashed on Mt Maunganui, Tauranga.

The 48-year-old local man died at the scene. The crash occurred near the summit on the eastern side of the Mount.

The paraglider landed about 100 metres into dense bush which required 4x4 vehicles to reach. The man’s body was recovered by a team of emergency services personnel shortly after 8.30pm this evening.

Police are seeking any witnesses to the crash.

The paraglider was the only one flying at the time.
