RNZNs first female commodore to become second-in-command of the Navy

Royal New Zealand Navy Captain Melissa Ross will become the first woman in New Zealand naval history to achieve Commodore (one-star) rank at a ceremony in Auckland on Friday, 6 December.

The promotion will take place at 8am at Te Taua Moana Marae in Devonport, Auckland.

Later in the morning, at 11am, at a ceremony at Devonport Naval Base, Commodore Ross, of Nga Puhi descent, will report for duty to the Chief of Navy as the first female to be posted as Deputy Chief of Navy.
