Hamilton Police are crediting the benefits of strong partnerships with other agencies as playing a major part in the arrest of four men involved in several alcohol related violent incidents in Hamilton City early this morning.
In the worst incident a man suffered serious injuries after being bottled on Victoria St about 1.15am while in another incident people on Alexandra St were threatened by a man with a broken beer bottle about 2.30am.
Hamilton City Area Commander, Inspector Rob Lindsay, said in both incidents Police were alerted by Hamilton City Council security camera operators.
"In the first incident a large group was involved who split up and fled when Police arrived and in the second one man we believe was involved in the earlier fracas was arrested at the scene while an associate tried to flee over the roof of a restaurant.
"That man, a 19-year-old, was chased over rooftops by officers and arrested when he dropped down into an alleyway."
Mr Lindsay said those incidents were just two of several alcohol related violent and disorder incidents that kept his staff busy in the CBD overnight.
"Policing alcohol related problems is a challenge in Hamilton as it is in many cities across the country however as far as our City is concerned we have a real strength in terms of the Alcohol Accord.
"In terms of these incidents the City Camera staff proved invaluable in terms of identifying the problem and assisting in where we could best deploy our staff."
The pair arrested won't be lonely in the cells however with a total of four men being arrested throughout the morning after being identified by victims and camera footage.
Some of those arrested were involved in several incidents while inquiries are continuing into identifying other people involved with further arrests likely.
"The arrests of this group is probably one of the best justifications we can find for the multi-agency approach adopted in Hamilton to tackle a variety of challenges," said Mr Lindsay.
