21 April 2009 - This week, in the lead up to Anzac Day, fourteen New Zealand Cadet Force (NZCF) Cadets will trade three days of their school holidays to get a first hand take on a career in the Army.

The Cadets from around the country are taking part in an 'Army Experience' at Waiouru and Linton Military Camps. They will experience the sights, sounds and tastes of life in the Army.

A highlight for the group will be observing the world-class WTS (Weapons Training System) range at Waiouru and checking out all the different equipment used in the Army.

"Opportunities with the NZCF such as the Army Experience and cadet leadership courses help build a spirit of adventure and teamwork, important in building leadership and confidence in these young New Zealanders," says Wing Commander Guy Bendall, Commandant New Zealand Cadet Forces.

"The Army Experience is a great opportunity for Cadets who may be contemplating a career in the New Zealand Army to get a first hand look at the roles and careers available to them. They will get a showcase of NZ Army camps and units and it also builds an awareness of the Armed Forces, and the role they play in the community," Wing Commander Bendall says.

The Cadet Forces is a youth development organisation created in partnership between the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and the community.

It is not part of the New Zealand Defence Force but it is supported by and gets its military training flavour from the NZDF.
