An Auckland family celebrated with a special meal of scallops and mussels after finding out they had won New Zealand's largest-ever Lotto Strike prize of $1.7 million.

The winning Strike ticket was sold at Drury Lane Lotto Superette in Auckland and was worth a total of $1,764,676.

The father found out he was a big winner whilst watching the live Lotto draw on Saturday night.

"When my wife came home I had to say to her - how does it feel to cuddle a millionaire! She did not really believe it was all real until we went back to the Lotto shop in Drury to claim our prize.

"We then surprised the rest of our family with the news over a lovely seafood feast," he said.

The husband marked his windfall with a visit to the Big Boys Toys show in Auckland.

"I was going to visit the show as a spectator, but it was a great feeling going there knowing that I would soon have lots of money in the bank!

"The first thing though is to clear our mortgage - and help out family," he said.

His wife will not be left out of the family celebrations.

"I also plan on a girls big shopping trip. But maybe to Sydney! Some overseas travel would be great," she said.

The biggest individual Strike prize won to date was $1.45 million by one lucky Waitakere player in October 1993.
