The Barrington community is inviting visitors to sample some local hospitality and flavour this Sunday.

More than 50 local musicians, entertainers, cultural groups, sports teams, crafts people, local businesses and non-profit organisations will pool their resources for the Barrington Big Fun Day at Barrington Park from 11.30am to 2.30pm, Sunday 28 February.

Highlights of the line-up of stage entertainment, community stalls, food stalls and free fun activities include performances by local groups the Risingholme Orchestra and the Spreydon Baptist Kids Band, a magic show from 'Carrot and Pickle', free have-a-go TumbleTimes sessions from Pioneer Leisure Centre and two StoryTimes sessions from the Spreydon Library, as well as a Zumba demonstration.

Te Whanau Tahi Te Kohanga Reo will be selling Maori craft and offering face painting as part of a fundraiser to upgrade their playground in Hoon Hay. The Lions Club of Christchurch South will celebrate donating $1 million to the community. They will have one of their notable donations on site, the Salvation Army Disaster Unit.

Other free 'have-a-go' activities on offer for the children include kite flying, pony rides, a bouncy castle, face painting, climbing tower and Lil' Puff train rides.

Barrington Big Fun Day offers hot dogs, kebabs, cakes and candy floss stalls as well as a range of local produce. The information tent will also have free water and fruit. Visitors can also pick up information from several community providers and non-profit agencies.

If wet, the event will be cancelled. In the event of adverse weather, listen to Newstalk ZB for cancellation notices.
