Big Wednesday’s Biggest-Ever $36.1 Million Prize Package Won in Masterton

A Big Wednesday winner who bought a ticket from Kuripuni Lotto & Post Shop in Masterton is now $36.1 million richer and the holder of the biggest-ever New Zealand lottery prize winner title, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

Tonight’s winner has won a total cash and prize package worth $36,193,461.  This includes $34,453,401 cash, an Audi R8, a Porsche Cayenne, $250,000 credit on an American Express Platinum Card, $250,000 cash towards luxury travel, a Four Winns V258 boat, and $750,000 cash towards a bach.

In addition, Kuripuni Lotto & Post Shop also sold a ticket which has won Big Wednesday Second Division, winning an additional $696,795.

NZ Lotteries has set up a special hotline for this big winner, which is 0800 888 884.

“We are very concerned about protecting this big winner’s privacy; therefore we encourage the winner to call this hotline.  We can then verify that they have the winning ticket and arrange for them to claim their prize in confidence,” Mr McLeay said.

This is the largest Big Wednesday First Division prize since a $12.8 million package was won by a lucky Thames player in February 2006, and the largest single lottery prize since a New Plymouth Powerball player won $19 million in April 2008.

“We’re delighted for our winner in Masterton, who has beaten the 16 million to one Big Wednesday odds in order to take out the top prize” says Mr McLeay.

4.78 million Big Wednesday tickets were sold for the 24 June draw, compared to 500,000 in an average week, indicating huge interest from New Zealanders in the massive jackpot and generating $28 million in sales.

NZ Lotteries’ profits are used to support community groups throughout New Zealand.  Approximately 20 cents in every dollar spent on lottery tickets is transferred to the NZ Lottery Grants Board to be distributed to good causes.

Mr McLeay’s advice for this week’s Big Wednesday winner is to write their name and address on their ticket as soon as possible, confirming ownership, and to contact NZ Lotteries on 04 802 7000 so that we can advise the winner on the next steps to take to claim their prize.

Also tonight, a lucky Wanganui player has won $25,000 in Big Wednesday’s Second Chance draw.  The winning ticket was sold at Trafalgar Lotto in Wanganui and the serial number is 395-22943055-13xx.
