Waikato District Health Board will acknowledge the past and look to the future at a dawn blessing ceremony next Friday (12 February).

The 7am ceremony led by Tainui Kaumatua with the Waikato Hospital chaplaincy will farewell four hospital buildings and bless the site for further construction.

The old Distribution Centre, Purchasing, Kitchen and Bendall buildings are all marked for demolition to make way for the new Waikato Clinical Centre.

Waikato DHB Service and Campus Redevelopment (SCR) project director Ian Wolstencroft said these buildings date back to 1908 and hold a lot of history for many people.

"The old kitchen holds a great deal of family history with many generations working there and the Bendall Building was an important part of the hospital when it held the original operating theatres."

Mr Wolstencroft said the DHB is inviting anyone who holds a connection with the buildings to attend the ceremony, which includes past and present staff.
