Builders Welcome First Steps In Regulatory Reform

Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ) welcomes the RMA announcements as the first steps in a regulatory reform programme says Chief Executive Derek Baxter.

"The bureaucracy costs of construction have increased dramatically and this has had a flow through effect to housing affordability" He says.

"The land cost component of property has been rising disproportionately to other costs. The holding costs of land, while developers sought planning permission was identified as a key contributor to this." he says

"Builders also recognise the need to balance environmental issues with development and the proposals outlined yesterday seem target that well." He says

"There are good principles behind most regulation and the reform appears to be aimed at retaining the ideals while streamlining the process, that's exactly the approach we need across everything in the programme." Baxter says.

"This is a well signalled first step, in a much needed process, which Certified Builders is committed to helping continue"
