Fifteen students who have just completed their National Certificate in Carpentry (level 4) at NorthTec's Kaitaia campus have a three-bedroom house to show for their efforts.
The Kaitaia carpentry programme is in its sixth year under the guidance of tutors Murray Smith and Steve Rameka.
"The building of a three-bedroom house as the practical component of the course has been really rewarding for the students," said Steve Rameka. "This is evident in the quality of their work.
"Although the course is based on carpentry it's also about getting the students work ready and helping them to find their place within the range of jobs that are found in the construction industry such as in Architectural Technology, Quantity Surveying, Joinery, Retail, Sub-Trades, or Light and Heavy Construction."
The three-bedroom house that was built by the group is for sale and is currently on-site at the Kaitaia Campus. The house can be viewed at 21 South Road, Kaitaia and expressions of interest can be lodged by phoning 09 4086117 or by coming in to the Campus office (access is from Oxford Street, Kaitaia).
