Wellington, April 6 NZPA - A man arrested over a home invasion in Palmerston North last November has had a charge upgraded following the death of the 100-year-old occupant.

Glen Patrick Joseph Walsh was charged with indecent assault, assault and burglary and is due in court on Thursday for an administrative hearing after being committed to trial following the incident early on November 13.

The woman he was alleged to have attacked was 99-years-old at the time and died last month aged 100, not having left hospital since the incident.

Central region police spokeswoman Kim Perks said following a post mortem and review of the woman's medical records, the charge of common assault had been upgraded to injuring with intent.

The other charges remain the same.
