Christchurch, Christchurch, when will it end?

I have been following reports of this afternoon's renewed earthquakes from Sydney. The 6.0 event around 2pm was probably almost equivalent in size to the main event on February 22.

Most Christchurchians were hoping for a peaceful and settled (geologically speaking) Christmas. Now, those hopes have been well and truly dashed! GNS Science are predicting a pretty rocky ride for the next few weeks or more.

But the perserverance and stamina of the people of Christchurch is amazing. It is true that thousands have left the city since February. It is not inconceivable that more could follow but most will stay on to help rebuild.

At what should be a good time of year, my thoughts go out to the people of Christchurch. The many Kiwis in Australia will be glued to media and online reports, as I know I have been. I hope that you will at least get through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day without too many problems.
