Metal will be in at Christchurch airport tomorrow when Air New Zealand's grabaseat celebrates the departure of its "Mission to Metallica" flight - which will transport more than 100 heavy metal fans to Auckland to see their heroes at tomorrow night's concert.
Metal tunes will be blasting from a gate lounge party prior to boarding, which will also feature a performance by air guitarist extraordinaire Louis Ewen and an air guitar show down between the pilots and the flight attendants.
The flight crew will be entering into the spirit of the flight by dressing in full metal gear and passengers are being encouraged to do the same. A make-up artist will be on hand at the gate to apply the finishing touches.
Riccardo from radio station The Rock FM is MC for the flight which will feature metal tunes on the entertainment system, in-flight air guitar, and complimentary bourbon & cola to get Metallica fans in the party mood.
More than 100 $1 seats on the Mission to Metallica flight sold out in just three minutes when they went on sale via the grabaseat website.
