Civil Defence issues boil water notice in Tasman

Boil water notice

Pohara and Dovedale residents are advised that if they have a water supply they should be boiling their drinking water until further notice. Residents with water are also asked to conserve it where possible. Pohara Valley residents were issued with bottled water yesterday.

Residents evacuated

A total of 108 residents have registered as having self evacuated, going mainly to friends and family. Number not with family and friends include up to 24 at Onetahua Marae, 6 at Pohara Motor Camp and 6 at a Nelson Motel.

Iroquois helicopter requested

A helicopter has been requested to aerial reconnaissance in Golden Bay tomorrow morning. The New Zealand Army has also been asked to provide two UNIMOG vehicles and drivers to help out in Golden Bay.

Slips around Nelson

A total of 54 slips of varying size have been reported around Nelson. Council will be fully assessing them once it is safe and light enough to do so.

River peaks

All Rivers have peaked and are now dropping. The following peak volumes were recorded:

Aorere - 6 metres (annual flood level)

Lower Takaka 4.2 metres

Wairoa - 8.1 metres (1 in Ten year event)

Wai-iti - 5.4 metres (1 in 12 year event)

Maitai 2.4 metres (annual event)

Wakapuaka 5.8 metres (1 in 7 year event)

High tide at 0120 am is not expected to have any effect on river levels.

Self Evacuation

Residents who feel unsafe are asked to self -evacuate in the first instance. Anyone with nowhere to go is asked to report to the Suburban Club in Tahunanui to get further advice or call Nelson City or Tasman District Councils.
