What: 'Stepping UP: ICT for a better future' is a new training programme that will begin in Gisborne on 19 May, and is an extension of the already successful Computers in Homes programme. Stepping UP provides adults with basic computer knowledge with free Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training, aimed at developing their skills a step further in areas of direct relevance to their work and life.
The training will be conducted in a new Community Technology Centre (CTC) in Kaiti, and covers a range of practical skills for work and home including Microsoft skills, managing finances and accessing services online.
Also in May, local parents will graduate from Computers in Homes. Computers in Homes provides families with computers and the Internet, but more importantly training, skills and support to use computer technology, through their local school.
When: The opening of the CTC and Stepping UP programme beginning will be held at Kaiti School at 10.30am on Tuesday 19 May.
The first Computers in Homes graduation will be held at Manutuke School at 6pm on Wednesday 13 May with 25 families graduating.
The second Computers in Homes graduation will be held at Matawai School at 6pm on Thursday 21 May with nine families graduating.

'Stepping UP: ICT for a better future' is an extension of the already successful Computers in Homes programme. It provides the next step in learning that enables adults with basic computer skills to develop skills and confidence in ICT to help them at work and at home.
Computers in Homes Rorohiko I roto ngā Kāinga is a programme that brings computer technology within reach of all New Zealand families with school-aged children.
