5 August 2008 - Community projects in six regions stand to benefit from the revamped Yellow Pages Group' Art Awards, which has opened for entries for 2009 in the Auckland, Gisborne, Wairarapa, Marlborough, Manawatu and Bay of Plenty regions.

Yellow Pages Group Art Awards finalists in each of the 18 phonebook regions will now be asked to choose one of three pre-selected initiatives in their region that they would like to see supported from the proceeds of their auctioned artwork.

An expert judging panel will select the three finalists from each of the 18 regions, and the public will then have the opportunity to vote online to decide whose artwork makes the White pages® cover in each region.

There are cash prizes for the top three selected finalists in each region, in addition to a $10,000 cash prize for the overall national winner.

Yellow Pages Group Chief Executive Officer Dudley Enoka said the Yellow and White books represented nearly all New Zealanders and the art awards programme was about reflecting the regions of those New Zealanders.

"Our books are found in nearly every business and household in New Zealand and our Yellow Pages Group Art Awards programme ensures that the books reflect the regions they are part of.

"Our intention with the new developments to the programme is for the regions that the artists come from to directly benefit as opposed to one centralised charity," said Mr Enoka.

This is made possible through the annual Yellow Pages Group Art Charity Auction where the winning entries and that of the finalists go under the hammer to raise money for these regional initiatives.

Yellow Pages Group will be announcing further details including the creation of a charitable trust and partnerships with charities and organisations who will channel funds into selected regional initiatives.

Other changes to the 2009 awards see the programme timetable split into three groups according to region:
