19 December 2008 - Christchurch City Council will begin negotiations on a 5164sqm site in Beckenham for a garden and heritage park.
A petition from 1684 residents to purchase the land which adjoins Ernlea Reserve and has a significant stand of exotic trees was presented at today's (19 December) Council meeting.
Councillors Barry Corbett and Sue Wells moved a recommendation to purchase the property at 6 Nutfield Lane, Beckhenham.
The retention of the developed heritage garden and trees on the property was seen as highly desirable, Mr Corbett said.
"We want to protect this area and I am confident that it will become the Mona Vale of South Christchurch."
