8 June 2009 - A Wellington couple made a quick stop in to NZ Lotteries' Wellington office this morning to claim their Lotto prize on route to hospital where the couple await the birth of their second child this afternoon.
The couple won a $250,000 share of Lotto First Division at the weekend and were understandably in a bit of a hurry to sort the unexpected paperwork.
The wife checked their Lotto ticket yesterday afternoon and in shock, phoned her husband and told him he'd better come home quickly.
"I was concerned that something was seriously wrong so I made it home as soon as I could and was completely shocked when my wife told me we'd won Lotto.
"This is certainly going to be a day we'll never forget," the husband said.
The couple, who also have another young child, told NZ Lotteries that like other young families they have a mortgage and debts so it'll be a relief to pay them off.
"With baby number two on the way today we're down to one income again so the money has come at a perfect time for us," the husband said.
Their winning ticket was purchased at Johnsonville Lotto in Wellington.
