16 October 2008 - The deadline is fast approaching for students interested in apply for Horizons Regional Council's $12,000 Don Linklater Memorial Bursary.

Horizons is encouraging students from around its Region to apply for the bursary before November 3. The bursary supports three years of undergraduate tertiary study in fields related to Horizons' work, to the tune of $4000 a year.

"This is a great way for Horizons to support students who are studying, or about to start studying, in environmental fields," says Horizons chairman Garrick Murfitt.

He says there is an ever-increasing need for people with skills in different aspects of environmental management.

Applicants need to be studying in areas relevant to Horizons' work, including resource management, river and drainage engineering, environmental planning, land management or Maori studies in relation to resource management.

To be eligible, applicants must be New Zealand citizens or residents and plan to study full-time at university in 2009. They must also be from the Horizons Region, but may study outside the Region.
