Dignitaries Show Support For Taumarunui Families At Computers In Homes Graduation

21 NOVEMBER 2008 - What: Computers in Homes, Rorohiko I roto ngā Kāinga, is a national programme that brings computer technology within reach of all New Zealand families with school-aged children.

The programme provides families in low-income communities with computers and the Internet, but more importantly training, skills and support to use computer technology, through their local school.

25 participants have been involved locally in Taumarunui and will celebrate their graduation in a ceremony to be held on 24 November.

When: The Graduation ceremony will be held from 6pm on Monday 24 November.

Where: Ngapuke School Ngapuke Road Taumarunui

Who is attending: Di Das - Computers in Homes National Co-ordinator Sue Morris - Ruapehu District Mayor Family and friends of the graduates Graduates from 25 local families

Why: Computers in Homes helps to strengthen relationships between families and schools, improve educational outcomes for children, and provide greater opportunities for their parents.

46% of households with school-aged children are without the Internet in the Ruapehu District*. This is compared to North Shore City, which has only 13% of households without internet access. The Ruapehu District ranks 68th for internet access out of 73 districts in New Zealand.
