The first ever ros made by New Zealand's only exclusive boutique bubbles producer, Marlborough's No.1 Family Estate was launched in explosive, celebratory style in Auckland on Tuesday night.
An audience of some 160 that read as a who's who of local television, wine trade and Auckland business witnessed a tandem sabrage by Remy and Virginie Le Brun, the son and daughter of company founders, Adele and Daniel Le Brun. Held at Mollie's Boutique Hotel in Ponsonby, the pair delighted the crowd with their dramatic method of opening the wine. Holding a chilled bottle of No.1 Ros in one hand and a sword in the other, they swiftly slid the blade along each bottle and cleanly removed the neck with the cork still intact, in true French style.
The No.1 Ros is winemaker Daniel Le Brun's first ros at his family company. Made from 100% Pinot Noir from tiny yields nurtured on the family's vineyard, the wine offers a delicate salmon-pink colour and a mass of tiny bubbles. The seamless balance of subtle cherry and almond hints combined with a fine acidity provides for a dry, yet fresh and graceful wine that leaves a lasting impression of opulence and splendour.
The exclusive, lavish party was the perfect launch for this exceptional new wine, one that is undoubtedly destined for great things.
