Ex-Teen Killer Awaits Sentencing

Auckland, Feb 18 NZPA - An Auckland man convicted for manslaughter as a 14-year-old in 1994 has been convicted for another violent assault after attacking his pregnant girlfriend.

Anthony Alfred Afu, 28, is awaiting sentencing after admitting charges of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, male assaults female and injuring with intent to injure.

Afu admitted the charges shortly before a trial was due to begin in the High Court at Auckland, the New Zealand Herald reported.

He is in custody.

The first charge related to the assault on his girlfriend in December 2007, while the other two related to another assault three months earlier .

A charge of procuring an abortion was dropped after Afu entered guilty pleas to the other charges.

The charges come 15 years after he was jailed for two years and three months for manslaughter, after fatally attacking John Wahanui with a piece of wood .

Afu also spent three months in jail in 2002 and five months in 2006 for assaulting a female.
