Wellington, Feb 13 NZPA - A man whose two sons are serving life terms for the murder of three-year-old Nia Glassie will today be sentenced for abusing the toddler.

A jury found William Curtis guilty on eight assault charges after a trial in Rotorua District Court last December.

His sons Wiremu and Michael were last week jailed with minimum non-parole terms of 17 years for killing the toddler who suffered months of torment at their hands.

The toddler's mother, Lisa Kuka, was jailed for nine years after being found guilty of manslaughter.

William Curtis' abuse included wrapping a scarf around her neck and lifting her off the ground until her face went purple.

Evidence was given that he smacked the child on numerous occasions and pushed her over.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Curtis, 49, will appear in Rotorua District Court today for sentencing.
