The first World Occupational Therapy Day will be celebrated on October 27 with a 24 hour virtual global exchange when anyone, anywhere can share and learn how occupational therapy plays a powerful role in the health and well being of all peoples.
First up on the Global Exchange schedule of presentations is 'Some thoughts about occupational therapy's potential to respond to Māori occupational needs' by New Zealand therapists James Sunderland and Kristi Carpenter.
Instigator, Merrolee Penman, Principal Lecturer of Otago Polytechnic says, "Through arranging our event to coincide with World Occupational Therapy Day, we have created an opportunity for occupational therapists from around the globe to explore and consolidate our foundational beliefs in the power of occupation."
Twenty-four free one hour sessions will feature occupational therapy researchers, academics, philosophers and most importantly occupational therapists in practice from places as far apart as Iceland, New Zealand, Seychelles, United Kingdom, Israel, Australia and Canada. Each session has a different focus following a similar format of presenting concepts or information with opportunities for discussion.
