Fitec Emerging Leaders Scholarships Launched

4 September 2008 - FITEC, the Industry Training Organisation for the forestry, wood manufacturing, biosecurity and furniture industries, has just announced the launch of a new scholarship programme.

The announcement was made at the annual FITEC National Training Awards on Wednesday night.

Ian Boyd, FITEC Chief Executive, says the FITEC Emerging Leaders scholarships are a new initiative to promote excellence and encourage a higher level of training - to those working in the forest and wood manufacturing sectors.

``Initially, there will be four annual scholarships and successful applicants can choose between a fully funded Outward Bound leadership course or a NZ Institute of Management leadership course. Successful recipients will have 12 months to complete the course of their choice.

``These scholarships are a great development opportunity for employees - with the support of their employers - and we are expecting there will be a great deal of interest.''

Mr Boyd says that future plans include the possibility of increasing the number of scholarships available annually to eight.
