FNDC Right - Minister Dunne's Fluoridation Statement A Disgrace

"A disgrace to the office of a Minister, and an affront to our democracy, born of ignorance and unbelievable arrogance!" This is how Mark Atkin of Fluoride Action Network NZ (FANNZ) describes Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne's media release on the Far North District Councils decision to honour its resolution to not begin fluoridation if the public voted against it.

The referendum on fluoridation was forced on the Council by the Ministry of Health's contract. "Although the contract was entered into by the Ministry in bad faith 'in the back room' with former CEO Clive Manly, the Council has honoured it. Now Mr Dunne describes the process required by the contract as 'failed', and complains the Council kept its word!

The Council also honoured its agreement to a 2 year fluoridation trial in Kaitaia and Kaikohe. Mr Dunne describes ending the fluoridation trial after 2 years as per the contract with the DHB, as 'bizarre'! Astonishing!" says Mr Atkin "If I hadn't seen this type of duplicity constantly from fluoridation pushers, I wouldn't believe it."

"Mr Dunne has recently failed, and finally refused, to address questions put to him by Timaru resident Imelda Hitchcock. He knows nothing about fluoridation - he is just a puppet for the Ministry of Health and its failed policy" says Mr Atkin.

Mr Dunne claimed the Far North had the worst teeth in NZ - not so according to the Ministry's own published 2008 data. Four other areas have more decay.

"The fluoridation trial was a failure. So the 'researchers' produced a false report claiming benefit. We have previously described this as blatant academic dishonesty. So Mr Dunne just repeats this deception" points out Mr Atkin.

"As is plain from Mr Dunne's mindless tirade, it takes real courage for a Council to follow due process and act with integrity when barraged by ignorant politicians, who have no place interfering in Local body decision-making. Congratulations to the FNDC for righting the wrong of the previous Council, and listening to the people they were elected to serve" concludes Mr Atkin.

Mr. Atkin is far too kind to

Mr. Atkin is far too kind to Mr. dunne. Dunnes actions are not unique, just more outspoken. It is typical for health departments to refuse debate and actually answer questions. Few actually read or know the data other then simplistic talking points they can cut and paste or recite. Their job is promotion not honesty of benefit of those they are paid well to serve. Fluoridation is but a well proven failure given life by government stupidity and not so bright dentists willing to repeat simplistic lies. When tested most proved fluoride ignorant. Yoder K.M. 2007 can be seen on pubmed.com. Only 14% understood benefit is topical post eruptive not pre eruptive ingested. Even the CDC and ADA have had to admit many times it is a topical benefit. Just not to the public yet. Featherstone 2000 showed this in detail along with 2 dozen other researchers. Surely they could read the data if they cared. It is questionable any topical benefit exists below 1000ppm say Uk and Aussies the last2 years on toothpaste testing for kids. They also mentioned more damaged enamel as level increases from accidental ingestion which is typical 50% in the young.
look at the science not some government fool.

The National Academy of

The National Academy of Sciences did a thorough review on fluoride in 2006. They documented numerous deleterious effects of fluoride on many organ systems including increased potential risk for bone fractures (the well characterized disease of skeletal fluorosis) possibly increased risk of osteosarcoma, reduced IQ, thyroid dysfunction, endocrine dysfunction and others all 300 pages is online if anyone cares to confirm it. Of course don't forget fluoride induced dental fluorsosis (i.e. teeth mottling and a sign of toxic exposure to fluoride) They ended with recommending that the EPA should more strictly regulate fluoride. Their findings mirror those in the peer-reviewed medical literature, while Harvard trained toxicologist Phyllis Mullenix also extensively documented behavioral changes in mice upon exposure to blood levels of fluoride not far greater than those experienced through water fluoridation and other sources of exposure. Former, well credentialed EPA scientists have been fired for bucking the political line on this issue. Meanwhile 90% of the fluoride placed into our water supply is not industrial grade sodium fluoride, it is silicofluorides, quite simply, scraped from the sides of Florida phosphate plant smokestacks. If it weren't thrown into the water supply it would have to be disposed of as hazardous waste.
