Wellington, Jan 8 NZPA - Four men were arrested in Hamilton overnight after a series of alcohol-fuelled incidents.
In the worst of them, a man was seriously injured after being hit with a bottle on Victoria St about 1.15am.
In another incident people in Alexandra St were threatened by a man with a broken beer bottle about 2.30am.
In both cases, police were alerted by city council security camera operators.
"In the first incident a large group was involved, who split up and fled when police arrived," said Hamilton City area commander Inspector Rob Lindsay.
"In the second one, the man we believe was involved in the earlier fracas was arrested at the scene while an associate tried to flee over the roof of a restaurant."
The 19-year-old was chased by officers over rooftops and was arrested when he dropped down into an alleyway.
Mr Lindsay said the incidents were just two of several alcohol-related violent and disorder incidents that kept his staff busy in the central city overnight.
