The West Coast portion of the 2009 Fresh Future Appeal will be launched at McBrearty Ward, Grey Base Hospital at 10.30 am on Thursday 6 August. The appeal is run by the Progressive Enterprises family of supermarkets and Dick Smith stores throughout New Zealand in August and September for paediatric care in various NZ hospitals, with staff organising a broad and imaginative range of fundraising activities. As the Appeal aims to support kiwi kids and their families, maternity and paediatric wards at Grey Base and Buller hospitals will utilise the funding for equipment in their areas. In 2008 the West Coast District Health Board was the fortunate recipient of $65,000 from the 2008 Fresh Futures Appeal. This money has been used in providing specialist equipment in the maternity and paediatric wards of the hospitals and has directly benefited young West Coast patients. In 2008 the appeal raised over $1million, which was divided among ten different hospitals. Young patients throughout the country benefited with a variety of equipment being purchased from the two month fundraising appeal. To make a donation during the appeal, customers can place money in collection boxes or buy raffle tickets at Fresh Choice or Dick Smith stores.
