Auckland Police have now launched a homicide investigation after the death of a man in Glen Innes on Wednesday night.
Paul Stewart Kingi, a 57 year old man from Glen Innes, who was admitted to Auckland Hospital on Wednesday night died on Thursday night.
A post mortem examination today revealed that the deceased died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
Two Glen Innes men aged 64yrs and 37 yrs old have been charged with assault in relation to Mr Kingi and appeared in the Auckland District Court on Thursday 11 March and were remanded on bail without plea until 25 March 2010.
The Police will decide whether further charges are to be laid once their investigation is complete. The investigation is expected to take a week to complete.
As the matter is before the Courts and subjudice rules apply Police are unable to make any further comments.
