Wellington, March 6 NZPA - The Government plans to reorganise state services with possible mergers in departments, ministries, and agencies.
It is unknown if any jobs would be shed, but functions such as human resources, IT, payroll and communications are likely to have cut backs, The Dominion Post reported today.
The expected three mergers in Internal Affairs, MAF, and the science sector are to be announced on Wednesday.
There are also reports that space at the National Library has been booked to announce a new "Ministry of Information," which would fold National Library and National Archives into the Internal Affairs Department. Land Information New Zealand and Statistics has also been considered in the merger.
The Agriculture and Forestry Ministry could also undergo changes with the Food Safety Authority expected to be brought back under its roof.
In the science sector, the Foundation of Research, Science & Technology and Research, Science & Technology Ministry will be merged.
The changes are coming out of the State Services Commission under Finance Minister Bill English and State Services Minister Tony Ryall guidance.
