A front should move southwards across the upper North Island overnight Monday and during Tuesday. A strong and moist northeast flow ahead of the front is expected to bring a period of heavy rain to northern New Zealand.

About the Coromandel Peninsula heavy rain is now expected to reach warning amounts, with 70-90mm falling in a 12 hour period from 6am Tuesday. This amount of rain can cause rivers and streams to rise quicky, cause slips and can make driving conditions hazardous.
