A complex trough lies slow-moving over the upper North Island, forcing a strong, moist east to northeast flow over much of the North Island, and bringing further heavy rain. In western Bay of Plenty, a further 40mm of rain may fall this evening and tonight, and in Gisborne up to 130mm of rain is likely to accumulate about the ranges and hill country through Tuesday afternoon. A Warning continues to be in force for these areas. For Hawkes Bay there is some uncertainty regarding rainfall accumulations, and a Watch will be maintained.
People in these areas are advised to watch out for surface flooding, slips and rapidly rising streams and rivers.
