11 September 2008 - From the Night Shelter to a degree in Alcohol and Drug Counselling - that's the hope of one Homeless World Cup hopeful and Downtown Community Ministry service user. He has trained each week for the last four months with others who hope to be in the New Zealand team that travels to Melbourne in November for the Homeless World Cup. "It's been absolutely fantastic," says William, a self confessed all rounder because, "I can be in all places at once". Being part of the team has proved motivational and physically beneficial. "I'm feeling better, my vision has improved and my confidence has shot through the roof." William is currently getting his travel documents ready after being selected for the team but he's worried about his convictions preventing him entering Australia. "I've been inside for 17 years so I'm not getting too excited. But if I don't get to go it's already been better than I ever thought. My dream now is to get into university and study psychology, alcohol and drug counselling and be able to warn kids about it all. I've got a chance to give something back." Fundraising is continuing for the team who need funds for travel, clothing and equipment. The Street Football Aotearoa charity account details are - Kiwi Bank 389 007 0615666 00.
