4 September 2008 - The woman whose body was discovered in an inner city apartment on Tuesday, September 2, has been formally identified as Yi Ren, also known as Tina, a 30 year-old Chinese national from Beijing.

Police have notified her next of kin, some of whom are travelling from China to Auckland over the next few days.

The post-mortem examination of Ms Ren was completed this morning and a preliminary report shows she had suffered stab wounds. Cause of death will ultimately be determined by the Coroner.

The 23 year-old man at the centre of the homicide investigation is expected to be discharged from Middlemore Hospital today and will be formally spoken to by investigators after he leaves the hospital.

The scene examination at the Winchester St apartment where Ms Ren is believed to have been killed is ongoing and expected to be completed tomorrow afternoon.
