Horizons Regional Council is inviting students aiming for an environmental career to apply for a Don Linklater Memorial Bursary, worth $4000 a year.

The bursaries support undergraduate students' study for up to three years. They need to be studying in areas relevant to Horizons' work, including resource management, river and drainage engineering, environmental planning, land management, or Maori studies in relation to resource management.

The bursary was set up in memory of the late Don Linklater, well respected chairman of Horizons from 1989-2000. To be eligible, applicants must be New Zealand citizens or residents and plan to study full-time at undergraduate level at a New Zealand tertiary institution in 2009.

Students must be from the Horizons region, which covers Palmerston North, Wanganui, Rangitikei, Manawatu, Tararua and Ruapehu, although they may study outside the region.

The closing date for applications is November 3 2008. Application forms are available from www.horizons.govt.nz, Horizons offices or by calling freephone 0508 800 800.
