Hutt City and Upper Hutt winning the title of New Zealand's most Cycle Mad Cities during Bike Wise Month is a fantastic result, says Hutt City Mayor David Ogden.
"It was a great turnout to have 1,700 cyclists riding the Hutt River Trail as part of the Mayoral Challenge, especially when you consider we had the threat of a tsunami to contend with!
"It, along with the huge interest in council's Summer of Cycling series, shows the people of the Hutt Valley have a real passion for cycling.
"The popularity of these activities reaffirms council's decision last year to increase funding for cycle amenities in Hutt City to $350,000 per year.
"My congratulations to everyone who participated in the Mayoral Challenge and earned the Hutt Valley the right to officially call itself 'Cycle Mad'.
