At approximately 12:00 pm today the Rotorua Baytrust Rescue Helicopter was called to Pongakawa for an injured Motorcross racer at the Pirini Trail Ride event. The 29 year old Papamoa man fell of his motorcycle and suffered both a broken leg and a dislocated knee.

Two St. John's Paramedics flew to the scene with the Rescue Helicopter and were greeted by Tauranga St. John's paramedics who had stabilised the man's injuries. He was then airlifted to Tauranga hospital in a comfortable position.
