A 20 year old from Blenheim was flown to Nelson hospital at 1143 today 30 July 2011 by the Summit Rescue Helicopter. He had a fall from his motorcross bike during a race in Eighty Eight Valley (South East Of Wakefield).

He was treated by a St John Intensive Care Paramedic at the scene for spinal injuries.

After receiving emergency treatment he was transported on the Summit Rescue Helicopter.

A second job required us to rescue a 13 year old male from The Nelson Lakes area. He was in a group of 6 trampers making their way from Speargrass Hut to Angelis Hut. The weather conditions were light winds and clear skies with snow up to 1 meter in depth along the track.

The tramper fell approximately 1 meters and fell onto his chest giving him injuries, such that he couldn't continue. We located the tramper at1258 in a large gully and were able to land next to him. He was then assessed by our Intensive Care Paramedic before being loaded onto the helicopter. We landed at Speargrass hut to inform the rest of the group we were taking the patient to Wairau hospital.

The tramping party were well equipped and the patient was kept warm in a sleeping bag and bivy bag.
