Inmate Stabbed At Hawke's Bay Regional Prison

Hastings police are investigating the stabbing of an inmate at Hawke's Bay Regional Prison last night.

Police were alerted at 7pm last night after the inmate was taken by ambulance to Hawke's Bay Hospital with stab wounds to his chest. He underwent surgery last night and remains in a critical condition.

The 33-year-old inmate was stabbed inside a prison building. Police are today talking to prison staff and other inmates. The circumstances of the stabbing are unknown at this stage.
