Kidnapped Accused Faces Fresh Charges

Wellington, April 7 NZPA - A man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman in the Taranaki town of Patea faced more charges when he appeared in court yesterday.

Jerome Clinton Rei, 23, a cleaner, of Patea, was in Hawera District Court for a pre-depositions hearing.

He faces 12 charges including kidnapping, assaulting a female, injuring with intent, and driving while disqualified after an incident in the town on March 13 and 14.

Two fresh charges were added to the list yesterday, including an assault in Patea on February 21 and assault with intent to injure on March 9, the Taranaki Daily News reported.

Judge Allan Roberts further remanded Rei in custody until May 5.
