Lucky Numbers Found In Nick Of Time For Lotto Millionaire

A missing coupon meant that Lotto's newest millionaire almost bought a ticket with the wrong numbers in last Saturday's draw, says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

"I use the same numbers every week, but when I looked for my coupon with the numbers on it, I couldn't find it so I filled in a new one with new numbers.

"Just as I was about to hand the coupon over to the Lotto operator, I saw my old coupon tucked at the back of my wallet, so I threw away the new one and used my regular numbers - and it was a good thing as those numbers won me a million dollars!" said the winner.

The winning ticket was purchased from Ti Rakau Superette in Pakuranga, and the winner is also a Pakuranga local.

"The win couldn't have come at a better time, I've been out of work for a while," said the winner who plans to invest his winnings.

"I didn't believe it when I saw I'd won. I double, triple and quadruple checked the numbers, then I called my kids and gave them the good news."

Ti Rakau Superette owner Hitesh Patel was thrilled to hear his store had sold the sole Lotto First Division winning ticket from the weekend.

"I only bought the store six months ago and this is my second major winner already - I'm on a roll," said Mr Patel, who also sold a $250,000 Instant Kiwi prize just one month after taking over the store.
