Wellington, Oct 21 NZPA - A man who murdered a South Otago teenager in January has been sentenced to a minimum of 13 years' jail.

The 38-year-old man, who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing Michael Hutchings, 19, at Kaitangata, South Otago was jailed for life with a minimum non-parole period of 13 years.

His 30-year-old partner, who admitted being an accessory after the fact, was sentenced to two years' jail.

The couple have name suppression because they face trial over a separate issue.

Justice Graham Panckhurst, who sentenced the pair this morning in the High Court at Dunedin, said the crime was premeditated and calculated, and the impact on the Hutchings family has been profound.

Mr Hutchings' body was found dumped in the Clutha River, wrapped in plastic and weighed down by steel bars.
