Wellington, June 4 NZPA - A Rotorua man has been convicted of raping a woman with whom he regularly took part in bondage session.

Gordon Murray Waite, 42, was found guilty by a Rotorua District Court jury after less than an hour of deliberations on Wednesday, the Rotorua Post reported.

Waite, who had a fetish for cross-dressing, and the woman had known each other for some time.

He had been visiting her regularly at her home, where she would pick out women's clothing for him, tie him up with stockings, then lock him in a wardrobe until he either freed himself, or she untied him.

One night in March last year he visited her late at night and, after she thought he had gone home, he jumped out of her wardrobe wearing only a g-string and raped her.

Waite claimed he never raped the woman, who had set him up because she wanted to break up his relationship with his current partner.

He was remanded in custody for sentencing on August 2.
